Saftglas

My dear friend miss J gave me a gift certificate to Lagerhaus for my birthday. It's been almost two months since but up until last week I was sitting on it, saving it, planning, making sure that whatever I got, it would be something I'd really like.

And then I saw them, the lemonade glasses with the 50's print on.. oh so pretty and oh so mine! I bought two of them and once again I was savouring them and waited a couple of days before unpacking them. Just as I'm unwrapping them, I drop one on the floor and naturally it breaks. Still wrapped in the silk paper, it never got to see the light of day or serve cool lemonade. And that kids, is what happens when you wait too long for something, it slips through your fingers and is gone forever. You'll find me at Lagerhaus tomorrow being a good little consumerist and getting a replacement.

Earth Hour

This saturday it was Earth Hour between 20.30-21.30. I understand that it is more a gesture than something truly effective but I'd like to think that it's sown a seed of curiosity and insight about how reckless we are with our resources. I wasn't home so naturally my lights were off, but I admit, there was a time when I used to leave my home fully lit -so I wouldn't feel so lonely coming home to an empty and dark apartment. These days I worry far too much about my electric bill to pamper the loneliness in me and turn the lights off before I leave.

Have a look at these incredible photos from around the world at that hour, via. Some of did really great (Hong Kong) but some, I won't mention names (Toronto), should be ashamed!

No knead Bread

I was surfing around the other day and found this video on YouTube (via) where Jim Lahey from The Sullivan Street Bakery was sharing his technique for "no knead" bread to the readers of The New York Times. Being the breadlover that I am, I had to try it out. It wasn't hard to do and after about 18 hrs of rising alltogether and almost an hour in the oven, I could serve home baked "no knead" bread along with my bouillabaisse.

With a few minor tweaks here and there for next time, I can safely say that I'll never eat store-bought bread again! Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Bluebird

You know my modern version of a christmas three that I showed you in this post? I'm going to keep it permanently and change decorations depending on the season and taste. For my next project I'll be sewing the lovely birds I've seen over at Spool Sewing. Their wonderful mobile is truly inspiring!

My first try didn't really go very well, I used the fabric from two shawls I don't use anymore. Well, I quickly discovered that sewing slinky fabric by hand is harder than I thought. But I mustered on with flushed cheeks and a bunch of swearing later, I had (if you squint your eyes and use your imagination) a bird!

I've named it Chirpy, and I'll be making more! I'll just make sure that my sewing machine helps me out next time.

I ♥ Internet!

I love the internet.

Internet lets me follow a train of thought just as quickly as my brain can process the input. In the "old days" you'd have to go to the library to find inspiration but even then you'd have to know what to look for. Internet on the other hand lets you start at one thought and end up with something completely different.

For instance, I woke up far too early tonight and couldn't fall back to sleep. So I turn my laptop on and found the final episode of That 70's Show on some internet tv site. In the final minutes they play a beautiful song called Thirteen by Big Star. When I googled Big Star I came across their album cover "Radio City" which had been shot by William Eggleston.

So within an hour I've seen the final episode of a tv show, heard a beautiful song in it's original form and been introduced to an amazing photographer.

Do you see now why I ♥ Internet?
